Following a series of basic tips, but at the same time necessary for a correct application of phytosanitary products.
SPRAYER CONDITION
- Maintenance and cleaning of the different elements of the machine (filters, pump, distributor, nozzles, piping, etc.)
- Correct sprayer calibration
- Proper operation of the agitation system for good product mixing
PRODUCT CHOICE
- Good advice on the product to be used in each of the treatments is essential. In the case of mixtures of several products, confirm their compatibility at the point of sale.
- The dosage used should always be the one recommended by the product manufacturer, since either by defect or excess, an incorrect dosage will have a negative impact on the final result.
TIME OF APPLICATION
- In case of rain or rain forecast we should never apply, since the effectiveness of the treatment will be minimal or null.
- Check the label on the container for the optimum temperature range for the application of the product.
- Avoid treating early in the morning with the spray on the soil or crop, the leaves must be dry for a correct absorption of the product.
- Wind is the great enemy of treatments with spray booms, we should avoid as much as possible to treat on windy days, since the effect of the drift can decrease the deposition of the product on its target. Drift by definition is the unintentional loss of product that can affect the applicators themselves, animals, water sources, nearby crops or inhabited areas (we can minimize this effect with special anti-drift nozzles).
- Control the overlap between passes to avoid overdosed or untreated areas (use GPS guidance systems, foam markers, etc.).
- During application, check often the working pressure, the amount of product used, the working height of the bar and that the PTO speed remains constant.
